Here’s a good way to target the hip abductors, e Here’s a good way to target the hip abductors, especially if you’re a baller!

As per our last post, strengthening the hip abductors has been shown to reduce pain in individuals with patellofemoral pain syndrome, a common overuse knee injury among basketball players. (1,2,3,4)

I try my best... My goal with this social media p I try my best...

My goal with this social media page is to educate and inform patients about factors that may contribute to their pain, provide solutions to these issues, and hopefully demonstrate that chiropractors do much more than just adjust.

I don’t have an issue with chiropractic adjustments. I’ve seen them achieve amazing results with some patients. They’re a tool in a toolkit. The problem starts when all you have is a hammer, so everything looks like a nail. The key is to recognise who needs adjustments and who doesn’t.

Mobile hips, stable spine. Increase your hip exte Mobile hips, stable spine.

Increase your hip extension using this old stretch with some new tricks:
1. Actively squeeze your glutes to tilt your pelvis backwards into a more neutral position
2. Engage your core to keep your thoracic spine and ribs in a neutral position

Hold each side for 30 seconds and repeat three times on each leg.

Some evidence suggests that a limited range of hip extension can lead to more movement in the lumbar spine. (1)

One of the main contributors limiting a patient’s hip extension is the rectus femoris. The rectus femoris is one of the four quadriceps muscles and is the only one that crosses both the hip and knee joints. Because of this, it controls both knee and hip flexion.

As mentioned in our previous post, a study found that individuals with low back pain showed increased hip movement during knee flexion. (2) The authors suggested that this was most likely due to tightness in the rectus femoris. (2)

This stretch focuses on the rectus femoris. Begin now to ease your back pain.

Individuals with low back pain who participate in Individuals with low back pain who participate in a rotational sport demonstrate greater hip movement during leg motion than those without low back pain.

Study design:
- 91 participants
- 50 participants with low back pain who regularly participate in a rotational sport
- 41 participants without low back pain who do not regularly participate in a rotational sport
- all participants with low back pain associated their symptoms with their sport

- a rotational sport was defined as a sport that requires repeated rotation of the trunk and hips to perform most aspects of the sport

- individuals with low back pain demonstrated earlier lumbopelvic rotation and a greater maximal lumbopelvic rotation angle during active knee flexion in prone
- individuals with low back pain demonstrated earlier lumbopelvic rotation and a greater lumbopelvic rotation angle during active hip external rotation in prone
