Unlock shoulder health with a comprehensive approach
Shoulder Pain
The shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the body. Its optimal function relies on a delicate interplay of adequate mobility and strength in the upper and mid-back and sound movement of the shoulder blade. At Exactus Rehab and Performance, we evaluate each of these factors individually and their interactions to pinpoint possible contributors to shoulder pain.
If you present to our clinic with shoulder pain, we assess:
Upper and Mid-Back Mobility
- Restricted upper and mid-back mobility has been correlated with shoulder pain
- Upper and mid-back mobilisation exercises have demonstrated effectiveness in decreasing shoulder pain and enhancing function
Upper and Mid-Back Strength
- Reduced strength in various upper and mid-back muscles, as well as a delay in their activation during arm movements, has been observed in individuals with shoulder pain
- Resistance exercises focusing on strengthening and activating these muscles have been shown to increase function and reduce shoulder pain
Shoulder Blade Movement and Control
- Individuals with shoulder pain have demonstrated suboptimal shoulder blade movement and control during functional movements
- Poor shoulder blade movement and control is a proposed risk factor for shoulder pain in athletes
- Shoulder blade motor control (movement) and stability exercises have demonstrated effectiveness in improving function and diminishing shoulder pain
