Caloundra Chiropractor for Neck Pain
Combining chiropractic adjustments with personalised rehab to help reduce neck pain and restore comfortable movement.
How we assess neck pain at our Caloundra chiropractic clinic
When you come to Exactus Rehab and Chiropractic in Caloundra with neck pain, we don’t focus only on your neck.
Our thorough approach assesses your neck, as well as the movement, strength and physical capacity of the surrounding areas that may influence your symptoms.
This enables us to create an individualised treatment plan that combines chiropractic adjustments with targeted rehab, based on your assessment findings and the factors that may be influencing your neck pain.
At our Caloundra chiropractic clinic, we assess:
✓ Mid-back mobility
✓ Upper and mid-back strength
✓ Shoulder blade function
✓ Neck mobility
✓ Neck flexor endurance
✓ Neck extensor endurance
How we treat neck pain at our Caloundra chiropractic clinic
At our chiropractic clinic in Caloundra, we utilise chiropractic adjustments as part of our treatment for people with neck pain.
Neck, upper back and mid-back adjustments may help reduce neck pain, relieve muscle tension around the shoulders and improve comfortable movement.
We then use personalised rehab to build on these improvements by increasing strength and physical capacity.
Your rehab program is based on the findings of your movement assessment and functional testing and may include strengthening exercises for the upper and mid-back muscles, as well as the deep neck flexors and extensors.
As your neck, upper back, and mid-back capacity improves, we progressively increase the demands of your exercises to keep building strength and physical capacity.
Depending on your exercise experience, access to equipment and individual goals, you can complete your rehab independently, as part of your treatment sessions at our clinic, or somewhere in between.
Frequently asked questions
1. How many appointments will I need for my neck pain?
At Exactus Rehab and Chiropractic in Caloundra, we don’t follow a set number of appointments for every patient. The number of appointments you may need for your neck pain depends on your presentation, assessment findings, goals and response to treatment.
Factors that may affect the number of appointments include:
- The nature and severity of your neck pain
- The findings from your orthopaedic examination, movement screening and functional testing
- Your goals and desired level of function
- Your access to the equipment required for your personalised rehab program
- Your confidence and ability to complete your rehab exercises independently
- How you respond and progress throughout your treatment
2. Are chiropractic neck adjustments safe?
For most patients, chiropractic neck adjustments are considered a safe treatment option when performed appropriately after a thorough assessment.
Before performing a neck adjustment, we take a detailed history and assess for factors that may make a neck adjustment inappropriate. We also explain the proposed treatment and discuss its potential benefits and risks with you before proceeding.
If a neck adjustment isn’t appropriate for you, or if you don’t feel comfortable receiving one, we can use alternative treatment options such as soft-tissue therapy and personalised rehab.
3. How do you assess whether a neck adjustment is appropriate for me?
Before performing a neck adjustment, we take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history and individual circumstances.
Your assessment may include a detailed history, an orthopaedic examination and a neurological assessment. We also investigate factors that may increase the risk associated with neck adjustments and look for signs that may require further investigation or referral.
If our assessment indicates that a neck adjustment may not be appropriate, we will discuss alternative treatment options with you or recommend further assessment where appropriate.
You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your treatment options before we perform any adjustment.
You are always free to decline an adjustment if you don’t feel comfortable receiving one.
4. Do I need an X-ray or MRI for my neck pain?
Not necessarily. Most patients with neck pain don’t require an X-ray or MRI at their initial consultation.
During your initial consultation, we take a detailed history of your neck pain, perform an orthopaedic examination, and may conduct a neurological assessment.
These findings help us determine whether further investigation or imaging is appropriate. If we identify signs that require further investigation, we can refer you directly for imaging.
If imaging is not clinically indicated, we can begin appropriate chiropractic care without imaging.
5. Do I need a referral from a GP to see a chiropractor for neck pain?
No, you don’t need a GP referral to see a chiropractor for neck pain.
However, eligible patients may be able to access Medicare benefits for up to five allied health appointments each calendar year under a GP Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan.
To receive a Medicare benefit under a CDM plan, you will need to be referred by your GP and provide the required CDM documentation before your appointment.
If you are unsure whether you are eligible, ask your GP whether a CDM plan is appropriate for you.
